Ticketmaster Australia has handpicked ten breakthrough artists, predicted to spearhead the Aussie music scene in 2022.

The ‘Breakthrough 2022’ list is a celebration of our incredible local talent, and embodies Ticketmaster’s commitment to supporting home-grown Australian artists.  As the country returns to live music, the annual list connects local emerging talent to music fans, propelling them within the industry.

Korean-Australian rap crew 1300 lead the list with their honest and exciting brand of hip hop that subverts expectations of what it means to be a Korean rap crew, alongside Malyangapa and Barkindji rapper Barkaa with her powerful, raw storytelling abilities and lyricism embodying her personal experiences with incarceration, child removal, and addiction.

Aria-award winning Coodjinburra singer-songwriter from the Bundjalung nation Budjerah peaked Ticketmaster’s attention with his melting pot of soul, hip hop, R&B, indie, and pop, as did Cronulla alternative rock band The Buoys with their fiery indie-punk anthems that tug at the heartstrings.

Melbourne’s mysterious music makers Glass Beams are also on Ticketmaster’s Breakthrough 2022 list after their debut EP Mirage caught Ticketmaster’s attention with its Eastern-meets-Western fusion, and Melbourne DIY heavyweights Grazer also made a mark with their romantic blend of ‘80s indie pop and ‘90s grunge and shoegaze.

Brisbane-based alt-rock singer-songwriter Hope D has a huge year ahead of her and she makes it onto Ticketmaster’s Breakthrough list in anticipation, while Tasmanian singer-songwriter Kat Edwards returns after two years with a bang in the form of new single ‘Safety’, kickstarting what is sure to be an impressive 2022.

North-east Arnhem Land/ Darwin-based indie-pop-rock-band King Stingray have been turning heads since their very first single and with their Yothu Yindi bloodline and combination of Indigenous language and instruments alongside non-Indigenous music influences they make the list.

Finally, enchanting Melbourne-based trio Telenova with their cinematic electro-indie-pop round out Ticketmaster’s Breakthrough 2022 list.

“Our teams across the world have their ears to the ground and their fingers on the pulse when it comes to artists ready to take the next step in their careers. Ticketmaster’s Breakthrough 2022 is about highlighting those artists, giving them a leg-up in what is a hugely competitive industry. We can’t wait to see where they play next,” Gloria Brancatisano, Ticketmaster’s Content Manager and New Music Champion says.

“From artists who have had mind-blowing introductions to their careers, to others who give important voice to their communities, and those already slowly amassing fans across the globe – all the artists in our list are ready to take their careers to the next level.”
