Australia’s premier comedy festival – and one of the biggest of its kind in the world – is celebrating its 30 year milestone in 2016 with a massive line up of international and local comedians.

The festival was first launched in 1987 by comedy legends Barry Humphries and Peter Cook and featured iconic Australian talent such as Gina Riley, Doug Anthony All Stars, Rod Quantock and Lano and Woodley.

The 30th Melbourne International Comedy Festival is set to be one of the biggest yet! The 2016 festival will feature more than 2000 performers putting on 535 shows at 145 venues throughout the Melbourne and the state.

The festival is expected to attract in excess of 770,000 people and will provide a major boost for the Victorian economy. But more importantly, it is a wonderful chance to have some fun and enjoy a few laughs with friends and family.

Not to be outdone, there is a very healthy quota of Australian stars also appearing at the 2016 festival including Celia Pacquola, Wil Anderson, Judith Lucy, Tom Gleeson, Carl Barron and Hannah Gadsby.

And when the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is over, the team is tirelessly working to support and foster the next generation of comedy star through RAW Comedy, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comedy program Deadly Funny and schools program, Class Clowns.

The beauty of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is that there really is something for everyone. The performers cover all genres including stand-up, physical comedy, musical comedy, improvised comedy, kids and family comedy and everything in between.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of Australia’s most prominent arts and culture events and it is a festival we should all be exceptionally proud of.
